NZ$4.99, once. No subscription, no in-app purchases, nothing held back to unlock later.

The parent dashboard, showing a child's average score, their streak, subject averages and recent quizzes. A child's home screen: Pip the kea greeting them, with today's quizzes listed below.

How it works

The whole point is that it takes you almost no time. You are not planning lessons; you are deciding what your child practises this week.

You set a quiz

Pick the subjects, how many questions, and whether it runs once, daily or weekly. Six questions is a sensible school night.

Your child takes it

They open their own side of the app — no password, no account, nothing to remember. Pip reacts to every answer, and never scolds a wrong one.

You see how it went

A notification when they finish, and a dashboard showing streaks, subject averages and the topics worth another look.

What's inside

Real screens from the app, not mock-ups.

Why this one

There is no shortage of quiz apps. These are the choices that make this one different, and most of them are things we decided not to do.

  • Made here, for here

Maths, Science and English for Years 3 to 8, written against the New Zealand curriculum rather than imported and relabelled. Kea Academy is not affiliated with the Ministry of Education.

  • Questions come back until they stick

Get one wrong and it returns in a couple of days. Get it right and it recedes — two days, then a week, then three weeks. Three in a row and it is done with.

  • No ads. No tracking. None.

There is not a single third-party analytics or advertising library in the app. Nothing about your child is sold, shared or used to sell them anything.

  • Children never hold an account

A grown-up signs in once. Children exist as profiles inside your family — no email address, no password, nothing they could give away. That is deliberate and it is not going to change.

  • Works with no signal

Quizzes live on the device, so one can be finished in the car, at the bach, or anywhere the bars run out. Results sync when you are back.

  • Both parents, one whānau

Invite a second grown-up and you share the same children, the same quizzes and the same results — on their phone as well as yours.

Questions

What ages is it for?

School Years 3 to 8 — roughly seven to twelve. You set each child's year level, and the questions follow it.

Does my child need their own device?

No. Most families share one phone. Handing it over locks the parent side automatically, so a child cannot wander into results, settings or the quiz builder.

Why do I need to sign in?

Because that account is what holds your children, their quizzes and their results. It is what makes them survive a lost phone, appear on a second device, and be shareable with another parent. You sign in with Google or Apple — we never see a password.

What happens to our data?

We store your name and email from the sign-in, each child's first name and year level, and the answers they give. That is the whole list, it is held in Sydney, and you can delete all of it from inside the app. The privacy policy says so in plain words rather than legal ones.

Is it really a one-off price?

Yes. NZ$4.99 buys the app. There is no subscription, no in-app purchase and no premium tier, and we would rather charge once than invent reasons to charge monthly.

Who makes it?

One person in Aotearoa New Zealand, which is why an email to admin@kea-academy.co.nz is answered by someone who knows the app rather than a help desk.
